Budapest Metro

1/80s | f/4 | ISO 640 | 16mm

While Budapest is absolutely stunning above ground, one should not overlook the metro system in this city. There are a couple of metro stations that are beautifully made.

We had quite a challenge photographing these places. Not only because of the constant flow of travelers passing by, but also because of the security guards. For some reason, they were very annoyed by us making photographs. We were not allowed to use a tripod and they watched our every move, as if we were planning something devious. Honestly I don’t understand what is so suspicious about photography.

Luckily we got the shots we were hoping for in the end.

What’s interesting about the metrostations is that they are a reflection of the time they were built. Also, the old carts are still running on the older lines. In this way it is very harmonious together.
