The Julian Alps: lakes and landscapes of Slovenia

Slovenia’s Julian Alps offered far more than the churches, waterfalls and gorges we had planned to photograph. Around Triglav National Park, we repeatedly stopped for mountain views, clear water and quiet countryside.

One memorable stop was the spring feeding the Sava river, where remarkably clear water revealed movement beneath the surface. Lake Bohinj offered another mountain setting, very different from nearby Lake Bled.

Forests and carefully kept meadows connected these larger landmarks. We also hoped to see brown bears during the trip, but none appeared. Even without them, there was no shortage of landscapes worth bringing home.
