A misty morning at the Rottemeren

I rarely head out for photography early in the morning, but made an exception for a misty visit to the Rottemeren. The lakes are only a short drive from home, making them an appealing place to try something different.

The sun had already risen when I arrived. Even so, fog softened the landscape and gave familiar subjects a quieter atmosphere.

The mist also simplified the backgrounds. A tree on the far bank appeared more isolated because buildings behind it disappeared from view. That change made the morning worthwhile, even without catching the first light.
