Capela do Senhor da Pedra: sunset photography on Portugal’s coast

Capela do Senhor da Pedra stands on a cluster of rocks beside the Atlantic, near Porto. During my stay in northern Portugal, this small seaside chapel became one of my favourite subjects.

I photographed it during a colourful sunset, trying several angles as the light changed. The rocks scattered across the beach offered strong foregrounds and helped connect the building with the sea.

The daytime crowds had thinned by the evening, leaving more freedom to explore compositions. These photographs bring together the chapel, the surrounding beach and the last light of the day.
