Mastbos in autumn: mushrooms and Bouvigne Castle

An autumn walk through the Mastbos near Breda became a study of mushrooms rather than the wider forest. The seasonal colours had not quite peaked, and forestry work made some woodland compositions difficult.

The smaller subjects more than made up for it. We found beautifully formed fly agarics, whose colours and shapes stood out against the forest floor.

Nearby Bouvigne Castle offered a different subject at the end of the outing. Its setting worked particularly well during blue hour, adding an architectural contrast to the close-up woodland photographs.
