Spiral staircases in Paris and Rome: unexpected photo subjects

With little time for photography during city trips to Paris and Rome, I found unexpected subjects inside my hotels: two very different staircases.

In Paris, a traditional wooden spiral staircase suited the classic building around it. At The Hive in Rome, a modern staircase offered a more graphic composition, with a reflection that appeared to continue the pattern across the floor.

Both were reminders to keep looking, even without a planned photo walk. I carried my small Sony RX100 III on these trips, which made it easy to photograph details I might otherwise have missed.
